Mia’s Story

When Mia was born she had to spend some time in NICU to regulate her blood sugars and her breathing.

She was put on an ng feeding tube but she was very sicky. I was able to visit her about 12 hours after she was born and she was bringing up a lot of her feed every time she was taking anything. So I brought up to the doctors that I felt she was showing signs of allergies as my mum and my sister both had CMPA among other allergies.

I was assured “she’s just a sicky baby she’ll be fine” and to “ride it out” we did for 6 weeks and it just got worse and worse.

Luckily her reactions weren’t anaphylactic, I say luckily, but we would have been taken a lot more seriously had it have been! So she got her official diagnosis around 8 weeks. We spent a lot of time under a dietician especially since she was smaller than they expected at birth and we found out she had a genetic condition called Angelman syndrome when she was 1. Which means she needs a high calorie diet as she burns so many calories just in general.

Mia loves watching her fish (we’ve just upgraded the tank for the 3rd time!) she loves anything musical and anything she can chew on. She has started pulling to stand and is able to take some steps in her walking frame which is amazing as she can now see the world from a different point of view. But her all time favourite thing is to eat!

We came across grow with iris as a trial when looking for alternative milks for Mia when the G.P stopped prescribing her formula as she was “too old” but due to her needing extra calories we found something powdered like grow with iris is, is perfect for adding to her meals to get some extra goodness and calories into her without having to over feed her!

Mia is also allergic to soya and lactose so coming across grow with iris was a miracle. We wouldn’t change it for a thing. And the fact we’re like one big allergy family it’s amazing, the founders are so super supportive and willing to help with whatever they can! Thank you a million times over!

If you have a story to tell, please email us along with a photo at hello@growwithiris.com. In return we’ll pop a little something in the post as a thank you!
