How do I make it?

What allergens is your product free from?

How can you guarantee that Grow with Iris is free from all of the above?

Grow with Iris growing up drink is officially  free from milk, egg, soya, tree nuts and peanuts as well as from gluten. It is also lactose free. We also choose not to use any of the top 14 in our recipe. To guarantee this we take the following steps and precautionary measures.

Our product is made using British Retail Consortium (BRC) and Food and Drink Federation (FDF) guidance, in partnership with Anaphylaxis Campaign and Coeliac UK. To guarantee that we are truly ‘free from’, we take four crucial steps:

  • Our product recipe does not use any ingredients (including additives and processing aids) containing the specified “free from” allergens: milk, lactose, egg, soya, tree nuts, peanuts or gluten.
  • Our product is made in a factory strictly following good manufacturing practices (GMP) and allergen management practices.
  • We use a robust sampling and testing programme (using a fully validated analytical method) suitable for all of the specified allergens that we claim to be ‘free from’.
  • We make sure the way we talk about our “free-from” claims to you, our consumers, (including labelling of the product) complies with the relevant legal requirements.

What other measures have been taken to ensure the general safety of this product?

Where are your products manufactured?

Grow with Iris is manufactured with our AA-grade BRC manufacturing partner in Somerset. This is the highest grade manufacturer in the UK. Food safety, accuracy, attention to detail and hygiene are continuously present in the thoughts of every member of staff and we are very proud to partner with them.

Are Grow with Iris products approved by medical professionals?

We are aware that parents of children with food allergies and intolerances will be nervous about testing a new product from an unknown brand, so we have worked with leading Paediatric Allergy and Respiratory specialist Dr Diab Haddad and NHS Dietician Sarah Foster to tailor our product to ensure it offers a tasty, nutritious choice for children with food allergies and intolerances, and young children who are vegetarian or vegan.

Why should I trust your product if it is not currently recommended by or available on the NHS?

Amy has worked with technical, regulatory and sustainability experts alongside healthcare NHS paediatricians and dieticians to ensure the product is everything she hoped it would be – and a product that all children will enjoy. She hopes that one day it will be available on the NHS.

My child has intolerances / food allergies other than the ones you list being free from. Can they still consume your product?

We are officially free from dairy, egg, soya, tree nuts, gluten and peanuts. Although we don’t use any of the top 14 allergens in our recipe, however If your child has a food allergy or intolerance other than the ones we are ‘free from’, we do not recommend feeding our product to your child without consulting your GP or health practitioner for advice.

Please note that our product contains coconut and split pea which some people have been known to be allergic to.

Why no scoop?

We’ve consciously left the scoop out of our pouches to help cut down on plastic waste and to prevent you from having a drawer full of scoops! We did some research into biodegradable scoops, but we know everyone has a humble tablespoon at home so why complicate things?

Why don't you use a biodegradable pouch?

We chose our super light recyclable pouch because it means an 84% saving on carbon footprint compared to cartons and tubs. This also means you can say goodbye to bins full of bulky cartons and tins. We did a lot of research into biodegradable pouches, however because our product is little kids we couldn’t find one that met our food  safety standards.

Why powder and not ready made?

Being powder-based means we’re not unnecessarily transporting water. By adding the water at home instead, you’re saving 86% carbon footprint compared to read-made drinks. Super handy for travelling, camping, the childminder, grandparents too. Our one pouch produces the same volume of drink as x5 ready made plant-based milks, to us that makes perfect sense.

What age group is Grow with Iris for?

Just like dairy-based growing up milks, Grow with Iris is nutritionally tailored for young children aged 12 months – 4 years of age. It’s so tasty and packed full of good stuff that older children up to the ages of 9 or 10 may also enjoy it.

How nutritious is your product?

Grow with Iris is complementary nutrition, to be consumed alongside a healthy and varied balanced diet. It is fortified within the daily recommended allowances of key vitamins and minerals including vitamins A, D and B12 , calcium, iron, iodine, and zinc which can sometimes be lacking in a free from diet. This means there is no need to give your child a separate multi-vitamin.

You use split pea protein. Why peas?

Peas are not just rich in protein but are also a more sustainable choice than soya or nuts. Crucially, pea is not one of the 14 major allergens and is recommended as the best milk alternative for children aged 12 months-4 years according to a First Steps Nutrition Trust study into plant-based milk alternatives in the diets of 1–4 year-olds, 2021.

Are your products suitable for vegans?

Our product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. This means we use no animal derived ingredients in Grow with Iris growing up drink. We don’t have the Vegan society kite mark, however if that were something that is important to you then let us know.

Why are you making a product for 12 months+ and not from birth?

Food allergies often manifest when a child is being weaned and is introduced to solid and a variety of foods, so we know  there’s still a very  real need for a nutritious free from toddler product.

However, our goal is to launch an infant formula… from our research and development work we know they’ll just take longer for us to bring to the market due to all of the regulatory and legislative challenges that come with launching an infant formula which uses an alternative protein! This is in the pipeline with a top secret project working away in the background to bring us closer to making this dream a reality.
